Hong Kong has a relatively small number of rivers compared to its land area. There are four major rivers in Hong Kong, namely:
Shing Mun River: This is the longest river in Hong Kong, flowing through the New Territories region. It originates from Tai Mo Shan and drains into Tolo Harbour.
Lam Tsuen River: This river originates from the hills near Tai Po in the New Territories and flows into Tolo Harbour.
Shan Pui River: Located in the northern part of Lantau Island, this river is a popular spot for camping, hiking, and fishing.
Tai Tam River: Running through the southern part of Hong Kong Island, this river provides freshwater to the Tai Tam reservoir system.
Due to urbanization and development, many of these rivers have been heavily impacted by pollution and land reclamation. Efforts are underway to improve their ecological health and protect wildlife habitats.
